Rangji Temple Pushkar

Rangji Temple Pushkar is dedicated to the incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Lord Rangji. This temple is situated in the Indian state of Rajasthan, in Pushkar. This temple was built in 1823 by a wealthy Hyderabad merchant, Seth Puran Mal Ganeriwal. Even though the temple is dedicated to Lord Rangji, the temple has idols of many other gods and goddesses, Such as Goddess Laxmi’s idols, Lord Krishna, Shri Ramanujacharya and many others. At each corner of the temple, which is an indicator of the temple of Lord Vishnu, there are idols of Garuda. The four corners of the temple reflect the life of Lord Vishnu four times.

History

In the year 1851, through the efforts of Sri Rangadeshik Swamiji, Sri Rangji Mandir was established. Sri Rangadeshik Swamiji was born on Karthik Krishna 7 in Punarvasu nakshatra in 1809 AD in the village of Agram in Tamil Nadu, according to the Hindu calendar. Under the guidance of learned scholars, he was introduced to learning the Vedic scriptures. In a short time, he had mastered Everything that he had been taught and wanted to learn more.

He was pursued by a crazy bull one night in a dream, and everywhere he went the bull kept chasing, the bull stopped when he turned north. Taking this as a divine sign, he joined Kanchipuram’s Swami Sri Anantacharya, who was on a pilgrimage to the North. He met Swami Srinivasacharyaji as they entered Sri Goverdhanji, The head of the Sri Vaishnav sect, Goverdhan Peeth, was a very learned scholar. His disciple became Sri Rangadeshik Swamiji and he soon developed himself as a brilliant scholar. Swami Srinivasacharyaji asked Sri Rangadeshik Swamiji to take over the reins of Sri Goverdhan Peeth, finding him fit to bring the torch of Sri Vaishanvavism forward.

Swamiji’s name and popularity as a great Vaishnava scholar spread all over India in a very short span of time. The brothers Seth Sri Radhakrishnaji and Sri Govind Dasji of Mathura, influenced by his wisdom and devotion, approached Swamiji for discipleship and offered all their riches at the feet of Swamiji. Once, Swamiji explained the greatness of the temples of South India, The brothers then expressed their wish for Sri Goda-Rangamannar to be built in Vrindavan. Swamiji was still thinking about Andal’s unfulfilled wish, sharing her desire to spend her life in Vrindavan.

Swamiji immediately went to Sri Rangam and conveyed this desire to the divine couple Sri Goda-Rangamannar and sought the divine couple Sri Goda-Rangamannar as a divine predictor. Their authority to begin the building of the Temple. Skilled workers were recruited from Sri Rangam and brought to Vrindavan, and the temple’s construction work began in the 1845 yeat. The brothers contributed wholeheartedly and completed the temple in the year 1851 A.D. with their effort and the grace of Sri Goda Rangamnaar. The total expenditure incurred was Rs. 45 Lacs in tune. Sri Rangji Trust was established in 1867 by A.D Swamiji to take care of the functioning of the temple. Five generations of Sri Randeshik Swamiji have been serving the Lord ever since. The fifth generation of Sri Rangadeshik Swamiji is the new head of Sri Goverdhan Peeth Sri Goverdhan Rangacharya.
